Non-work incident

I am omitting the questions from this FAQ because they are largely self-explanatory.

A: It’s a sling.
A: No, I don’t really want to talk about it.
A: <sigh>
A: A bike wreck.
A: Yes. Yes, another one.
A: I know, I know.
A: Early this morning, before work.
A: Racing.
A: Because!
A: No, no cameras involved this time.
A: Yes, I had both hands on the handlebars. Why do you ask?
A: Well, it’s called “crossing wheels”… it happens sometimes during sprints.
A: He was drifting to the right, I was cutting to the left to jump around,
touched tires, my front wheel went hard right, and then WHAM!
A: I think I would’ve gotten second place, and might have been able to just take the line.
A: About 34mph at time of impact.
A: Nope, just me, thankfully.
A: Slid across the left lane… no cars coming, which was a big positive.
A: Broken collarbone. But only one fracture.
A: Yeah.
A: Yeah.
A: Yeah, same one. Left shoulder.
A: Yeah, exactly. The one that had the titanium plate I just removed.
A: <sigh>
A: Also some major road rash, but otherwise ok.
A: Oh and I ripped the tips off most of my fingers, which makes typing pretty exciting.
A: Nope, no impact to the helmet. My head’s ok. Well…as good as it ever was!
A: 6-8 weeks, depending on surgery plans. I’ll know more on Monday.
A: No, not too much. Well, except when I move. And then it’s really bad.
A: You’re right, it doesn’t look good. Oh well. That’s why someone else is
in charge of risk assessment.
A: I wasn’t going to tell anyone, actually… but it’s sort of obvious.
And people get curious.
A: Well, now that you ask - don’t tell Mark. I’ll never hear the end of this.
A: Of course I’ll keep riding. Other than breaking bones periodically, it’s
been really good for me. And it’s a blast.
